Guardian of the South

Trees are sacred, their presence grounds me. Lack of trees is one of the reasons we are leaving the South Florida area. Most trees here were cut down for development, many were lost during the last hurricane. I need trees because I am a Jersey girl at heart, to feed the need we planted flowering trees that would remind me of the seasons.

Many of our trees go dormant in the winter and then roar into color in early June. When Hurricanes Katrina, Jeanne, Wilma hit South Florida in 2005 we thought this tree was a goner...especially when we found her stripped bear naked and limbs all askew (100 mph winds will do that) after Wilma. Our gardener Jerry said he could save her-thanks Jerry!. This week I started a nature journal for the new homeowners so they know what each tree looks like in full bloom. Hopefully they’ll be good stewards of the land!

This year our Guardian of the South is putting on a magnificent flower show, it started in late May and she just keeps getting better and better... my husband feels the tree is saying good-bye to us. **sigh**

I am busy packing up the house and scheduling things for the move. Mercury retrograde has been especially challenging in terms of paperwork, and getting information from both the Sellers and Buyers.

I'd have a good closing if it weren't for you....

As an astrologer I know Mercury is retrograde, but it’s the other people in my day-to-day life that don’t know. Realtors, bankers, sellers, buyers, home inspectors...

I can’t very well go up to the person and say (or shout) "you know Mercury, the god of communication, is out to lunch people...we need to be on top of this! So please lets double check the work and get back to me, sooner rather than later."

The Full moon in Sagittarius at 28 degrees on June 18th is aligned with Pluto and Venus, that means there’s a release of this pent up energy! A mind fart ready to happen?

Everything will even out. Mercury in Gemini goes direct on June 19th (just 24 hours after the full moon). Yeah! But let’s also remember that Mercury doesn’t leave it’s shadow until the 4th of July (at the time of fireworks on the east coast) when it reaches 22 degrees of Gemini.* This is the time things start to move forward that you felt were at a standstill.

Do you have any planets in your chart at 22 degrees? In the signs Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius or Pisces? If so expect some aha’s. The key is to look back over the last three weeks and ponder this~

• How have I been challenged?

House sold in three days!

Thanks for the many kind comments regarding my extended absence from blogging. What’s been going on? Getting a house ready for sale in a market such as this is an event in itself. One caution...never ever walk into a Home Depot to order appliances right before Mercury goes retrograde. 3 refrigerators and 3 microwave deliveries later (five weeks without a refrigerator!!!) the house is ready for the big reveal.

Then there was the month we sat and debated whether to list the house or stay put, even though my inner guidance said it’s time- heck I was still waiting for the new refrigerator from Home Depot. This indecision after all my "Designed to Sell" efforts felt like I (the house) got all dressed up for the prom (the house being listed) and my date stood us up. (if you are selling a home or plan to sell read my Designed to Sell feedback here).

One evening Dear Husband comes in from walking the dog. He’s so excited..."You have to come see this!!" On the sidewalk in a fallen palm frond he’s found a bird’s nest woven from some wonderful things. A piece of string from the lawn trimmer, strapping tape, a twist tie. And there is the gate key from our wood fence...it’s threaded through the nest. This is a good omen for me, it’s time to move on. At the end of March and Dear Husband and I say "Let’s do this!"

We contact our Realtor to sign the papers, schedule pictures on Wednesday and the first open house is a week away. Within a few hours the house hits MLS. The next day I drive up to Tallahassee to help dear daughter move into her first apartment, thinking I’ll pull the living room in order when I get back. On the road I get a phone call from our agent-someone wants to see the house. That day two people come by, one husband and wife return a few hours later...by Monday we have a contract with solid buyers.

Our house sells in 3 days!

Yikes...Yes!!! No open house. No brokers open. Law of attraction in action. Wham, bam, thank you ma’am the house is listed and then taken off the market. It was a shock to my system. Yet hadn’t I been visioning this all along. What next? Now the guilt driving buy our neighbors house that’s been listed for over a year... we agree not to tell until the details were in order. Except when my sister calls from North Carolina to ask "what happened to your house on the MLS, did you sell?"

We have bought and sold four properties and it’s never felt like this. Now comes the nail biting waiting -dealing with the inspection report, mortgage approval, the Buyer walk-through’s and finally the appraisal.

As a couple we have gone through a myriad of emotions in the last two months and at this Gemini new moon the details are in place. Yesterday our realtor called to say the appraisal was good, start packing, it's a go.

In the process I lost my desire to write. It happened slowly as I removed my meditation room and healing space, my office from the house- packing up the pod, putting away "Me". Finally taking down my astrology calendar I lost track of time and Moon. I trust my desire to write will come back stronger after the move, when we get settled. My blogging here may be sporadic. It’s an exciting time.

So today we greet the New Moon in Gemini, and here’s the astrological aspect of one woman's journey...

Saturn in Virgo

Saturn, ruled by earthy Capricorn is now moving through Virgo for the first time in 29 years. Saturn rules the structure. Capricorn represents your tribe and the social responsibility you bring to the table as a human being. Capricorn represents the skeletal structure- the bones of who you are. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn. In alchemy 1st chakra Saturn is the metal lead before it is transformed and transmuted into gold, bringing deeper meaning to the phrase “Get the lead out.”

Saturn last transited my 10th house in '78-80 (college graduation). It's back again now. Virgo’s energy is asking me to take care of the details, get things in order.

Natal Saturn in Sagittarius in my 1st house represents self- The little ’me’.

Natal Mercury and Sun in the 4th house represents the deepest part of a person, their roots, the home, the ancestors, connection to the past.

Career (writing and blogging) Self, and Home. Do you see the energetic picture. I am building a new structure.

During the house sale transiting Saturn in Virgo (10th house) is opposing my natal Mercury in Pisces (4th house), while squaring my natal Saturn in Sag in the first house. Oppositions bring a release, squares offer up a challenge to the status quo. As things within me and around me shift I am open to the new possibilities of change. I am creating with a blank canvas.

Now may be the time to re-read the Saturn in Virgo information again, it may give you new insights into why and what is happening within you and around you now that Saturn’s been in Virgo since September of 2007.

Get a Mac

What’s it like to send your child off to college* during a Mercury retrograde? It isn’t easy!! They are in a mood, you’re in a mood. It’s like oil and water, shake well, try to mix. Duh! Let’s talk about computers. Laptops. I know nothing about Apple... I’m a 20 year PC veteran- doofy guy versus the cool guy "Why you’ll love a Mac" commercials.

Dear Daughter decides she wants a MacBook Pro from Apple for college. Went to Apple store in our local mall to check out the goods...Like what I hear. However the way we want to configure the computer it needs to be ordered through the Apple website. Leave store, order computer through Apple’s online store. Mercury enters it’s shadow.

Computer arrives- just beautiful. One more thing checked off my to-do list. Not quite.

Dear Daughter joyfully uploads 10,000 pictures and songs to her new Mac. Two days later I read on Yahoo News that Apple now offers a new MacBook Pro with a faster processor, bigger hard drive and better graphics card. Same price, better product. Dang. Why didn’t Apple email me and ask if I want the upgraded machine? Why couldn’t the Apple store guy tell us- "hey wait a few days before you order there’s going to be an announcement we are upgrading that machine to a better processor and bigger hard drive." Come on no one knew? No that didn’t happen. Mercury rules computers, networking and all forms of communication. Mercury went into it’s shadow on May 29 and...

In less than 24 hours of building/shipping Dear Daughter’s MacBook Pro it became old technology. Now I am on the phone with an Apple representative for an hour. Finally a supervisor shares "I am sorry for your inconvenience. We can refund $200 or Ms Lessirard you can ship the computer back, but its now considered used goods, there is a 10% restocking charge." Dang. Is this my dance with this Mercury retrograde. You betcha!

Now what? I make the executive decision to pay Apple’s restocking charge, ship the dang thing back... Out $239. Before I can order the New Mac the Apple website goes down for maintenance. When the site comes back up there’s a new screen saying Apple is now running a new promo, we get a free $200 I-pod with a purchase of a Mac. Now the cursed restocking fee is a almost a wash. It’s a good thing. Blessings. Father’s Day is covered. Thanks Universe. Now I go into Dear Daughter’s bedroom to tell her good news, bad news.

Have you ever tried to pull a teenager’s hands off their brand new Mac computer? They get snarly. I’m already snarly from dealing with Apple. Godzilla’s in the room.

Next day go we go back to Apple store to buy Office 2004 software, pay for goods walk out of store. Walk into AF store (off to college clothes), alarms start blaring....the Apple bag is setting off security alarms. Yowsir! Hustle back over to Apple store to have sensor removed. I explain the problem and Apple sales guy gives me a blank look telling me"I can’t deactivate the sensor."

"Are you joking??? How am I to shop, I’ll set off security alarms in all the stores." Another blank look. Am I not communicating or something? Now I am peeved "You can’t deactivate the sensor. You can’t tell me your product is being upgraded. You know after two weeks this PC person is tired of dealing with you people at Apple, you are completely clueless to making things convenient for your customer!!" Stomp out of the store. Remember Michele, Mercury is retrograde.

Fed-EX is scheduled to deliver the Mac this morning. Apple’s pre-signed signature release is taped on the front door [like Apple rep told me to do]. Everything’s covered. We are running errands, and upon return Dear Daughter asks "is my computer here yet?" No, form is still hanging on the front door, somethings not right, I can feel it, so I go online to check status of package. Seems Fed-Ex guy came at 8:22 am but DOES NOT leave New computer- no one home. WHAT! Fed-Ex representative shares yes Apple has a pre-release customers can print out, but Apple’s agreement with Fed-Ex disallows all it. Dang. Note to self- do not order a computer while Mercury is retrograde.

*Thousands of harried Florida parents are taking their recent high school graduates off to college for summer session this week.

Tone up your intentions

Today we greet the New Moon in Gemini [June 14, 2007, 11:13 pm] at 24 degrees. One day later Mercury goes retrograde in Cancer. Mercury the Communicator rules Gemini. Cancer rules the Moon no wait...The Moon rules Cancer- bringing up our issues around mothering (how we mother, how we were mothered), intuition, security, comfort, emotions. Think of the show Trading Spaces, neighbors switching houses, Mercury and the Moon have switched places at this lunation for the next 29 days. Focus. There is a dance between communication, intuiting, taking-care/caretaking and the feminine mysteries- we are steeped in MoonLight. Ask yourself- How do I abandon my Self, my voice, my truth and feed my Gemini shadow?

Face it…we all have shadows, disowned parts of our self we don’t want others to see. If you can’t speak your truth, communicate who and what you are about, well this is the time of year to come out into the Light!

Shadow expressions of Gemini may be related to:

Which one of these statements grab you? It’s all about Authenticity. A Visionary is a Visionary because they can hold point, stay focused even in chaos- the sign Aquarius ruled by Uranus, represents the higher octave of Mercury; this energy demands focused intent. An authentic person compromises and mediates when necessary; knows how to build consensus. They are the bridge builders. Angeles Arrien states-

The shadow aspect of the Visionary archetype- [the false self] is self-abandonment. Human beings universally abandon themselves for five major reasons;

• for someone’s approval
• for someone’s love
• for someone’s acceptance
• to keep peace
• to maintain balance, to stay in a state of harmony.

These are forms of self-abandonment. A Visionary knows break through the abandonment, knows how to speak their truth and be authentic. The False self disappears.

Find your Professional Self with spiritual muscle. At the Gemini New Moon remember your words have the power to harm or to heal. Gemini represents communication which comes through creative expression- your thinking and speaking- fifth chakra stuff. Fifth chakra at the rear of the neck is about the ‘will to create’- representing your sense of self within Society. How do I express my gifts out in the world at large? How do I skate? This chakra represents your Professional Self with spiritual muscle. The 5th chakra is the center where we hold our “fear of failure and fear of success.”

Trauma and Abuses: Lies, mixed messages, verbal abuse (includes constant yelling), excessive criticism (blocked creativity), secrets (threats for telling), authoritarian parents (don’t talk back), alcohol/chemical dependent (don’t talk, don’t feel, don’t trust).

Sound familiar? If you are in your 30’s, 40’s and beyond you encountered opportunities and experiences to heal your shadow issues of the fifth chakra. It is time to dance through the duality and hold our center point. Speak our truth. Write your truth. Dance your truth. CAREFREE CHILDREN SKATING ON ICE

Commentary: Children Skating on Ice symbolizes the freedom and pleasure of children enjoying themselves. There are also inherent risks of playing on thin ice that as a child you are not conscious of.

Oracle: If you are on ‘thin ice’ it may be challenging but most of the challenge comes from fears long held since childhood. If we don’t acknowledge these fears and adjust, then we may find our self at a disadvantage. Since Gemini rules change, it is now time to sharpen up your gut instincts and follow it at this lunation. Stay aware. Gemini brings the ability to sharpen our focus, but if I am distracted by my black and white thinking, “I am right, you’re wrong attitude” then I miss the middle way.

How have you been skating on Ice? Is there a firm foundation for what you now want to create? Frozen ice is Water. Like Mercury, Water is a change agent for helping us get from one point to another. We are real in our emotional body, there is a cleansing and rebirth. Water shapeshifts from ice to liquid to steam. This Sabian Symbol may be a metaphor for stuck emotions based on our black and white thinking that then seats in the body. Emotions may be up, anger may be fear. Sadness may be transformation. You’ll know pretty quickly- by the full moon in Capricorn on June 30th, the status of things within.

Holding the Charge

Vision quest, renovation... it’s a special time of year as we collectively enter a 40 day, 40 night period of transformation at the Full Moon in Sagittarius on June 1st, 2007. Are you ready? Like Neo, in the movie the Matrix, you and I took “the pill” to wake up and come out of the collective sleep. Taking this pill means we are called to live our Brilliance, warts and all, to become the sacred observer, the guides in service to our fellow man and the earth. It’s not some of us, it’s in all of us. The energy of Gemini is about living this Divinity. The keyword for this lunation is Embodiment.

In the language of Aramaic there is no word for "good" or "evil". In Aramaic the words would be "ripe" and "unripe. As we make judgments about the goodness or evil manifesting in the world right now I encourage you to work with the metaphor of ripe and unripe. It really helps shift perspective about the forces being played out [in the world].- Sandra Ingerman

A shamanic practitioner works with subtle energies related to the spiritual aspects of an illness. Possession happens when we are not filled with our own power, through the trauma/drama of living life our energy goes elsewhere. Our brilliance recedes. In shamanic terms this creates soul loss, spiritual intrusions and possession. From a shamanic perspective we can see this in extreme cases like the Virginia Tech shooter-there was soul loss and then possession. It is a spiritual illness.

A shamanic practitioner works with a client to restore their power through spiritual means- journeying, ritual and intention. It’s a heart centered process, that is not about good or evil…it’s energy. Light. How do we restore power, embody Light?

Like an energizer bunny -how long can you hold the charge? Be the Light? Holding the charge is directly related to holding the right thought, then relating that thought through right speech, like the movie The Secret. Manifesting the ability to self-correct. A man called last week looking for a depossession, the phone call went like this...

“I think am possessed”.

Michele: Oh my, well we all are in some way.

"I’ve worked with a spiritual healer and I am not any better."

Michele: I am sorry to hear that...I listened for about five minutes and finally said, "Can you stop telling the story in your head and heart, quit sharing the story with others? Quit feeding the energy?"

"What?? Huh?"

In South Florida many cultures practice the art of black magic. This man got mixed up in the wrong crowd and at some point woke up. He shared about feeling psychically attacked, developing stomach problems that the medical community couldn’t address.

Possession is a form of fixation, it’s akin to being possessed by a thought that you just can’t shake…i.e. drinking, eating, spending, stalking. Addictions are a form of possession by a strong emotion/thought. Yes there is such a thing as a possessing spirit or entity- which in heart-centered shamanic depossession work is called a ’suffering being’, so I took this man at his word. It is real for him, and so is his story.

Does your story possess you? We all have a story we share, but if that story is disempowering, then where is the value of constantly repeating it? If you have been building negative intent (anchoring) within your psyche then this is the moment you have been waiting for.

On August 11, 1999 there was a total eclipse of the Sun at 18 degrees Leo. When energy such as this manifests, it makes a mark on the plate. When another planet passes over the mark, it affects the plate and sounds forth its message. This eclipse marked the plate in the four fixed areas in your chart- the places within our psyches where we are most stubborn and rigid- Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius. Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius are the cornerstones of a building. This area is being renovated collectively.- from Grow what you know.

Since April of 2007, Saturn in Leo is moving over 18-21 degrees of Leo, opposing Chiron in Aquarius. Pluto opposes the Sun/Moon at the New Moon offering up a break-thru. The Universe is sounding it’s message and you are ready to receive it. In September of ’06 Saturn reached the 18th degree of Leo, went forward and then backed up in retrograde, this time offers up nine months of insights. I am writing the New Moon in Gemini story early so you can dance through it, know what is happening.

If Leo’s energy represents your creativity and Aquarius represents becoming the innovator, then how are you "being the change you want to see in the world" ? (Gandhi)

While we dance through these Gemini energies from May 21st-June 20th look at your story, how is that myth empowering your thinking and communication today. What has changed since 1999, in the last nine months? I invite you to honor this journey. Make the necessary changes.

Last month’s Taurus energies were about finances, so you may find yourself challenged to speak up, speak out. Gemini relates to sibling issues- brother and/or sister tweaking you. Find your voice, communicate your needs about your worth. Be kind. On the flip side you may be shouted at…can you keep your cool and really listen?

There are many forms of possession…and most times when healing is challenged it’s because we are attached to the story. The trauma/drama becomes more important than living our brilliance.

One day my friend John was in the hospital with a chronic fever due to his HIV infection. He called as a last resort. Drugs weren’t helping, doctors gave up, he had no faith in the God or the world.

In the hospital we talked a bit. I offered to do a shamanic journey on his behalf. I don’t diagnose, I become a hollow bone for the healing to come through. As I rattled and sang... I saw John playing with rabbits, first as an adult and then as a little boy... then there were thousands of rabbits showing up in my journey. I took this as a sign and brought back Rabbit as a power animal for him. I blew the energies into his heart chakra, and rattled around my friend singing softly. I saw my friend in all his Brilliance, honored his journey, honored the disease. On return I shared the story of what I saw, what my Teachers shared, explained how to work with this power animal. John smiled and shared that he raised rabbits as a child- they were his favorite animals. We laughed and joked, and when I left his eyes were brighter, more full of life.

A week later John called to thank me, he said his fever broke within 24 hours of our session and he was able to go home from the hospital. John, like the energizer bunny "held the charge".

When we feed the negative intent with our thinking, our brillance recedes- that’s why Taurus comes before Gemini. The new moon in Gemini on June 14th, follows Taurus. The Quest: how are you called now to speak your truth based on your issues with self esteem and self worth? What tweaked you last month and how are you communicating these issues in a healthy way?

What if...at this Full Moon in Gemini

This Full Moon in Gemini calls for intense focus. Leading up to this full moon you have seen what needs to be corrected, what problems are revealed to you? What direction you are headed? Me, when I went to publish a Blurb book this week I found out I am running out of space on my hard drive.

I can’t have a phone conversation longer than 15 minutes because the batteries in our three cordless phones in the house won’t take a charge.
