2010 Lunar Calendars- time to order

The calendar hangs on the wall near my desk...so I can easily look up to see what phase the Moon is in, when the Sun enters a new sign. The calendar comes in a couple different sizes/formats and it’s been one of my reference manuals for the last decade.

Moon Phase Schedules for Outlook

Do you use Microsoft Outlook? Then you may be interested in this helpful tool...Moon Phase schedules from Calendar-Updates shows the exact time the phase will occur and even when the full moon is considered a “Blue Moon”.

Eclipse schedules include the time the eclipse will begin, when it will reach its’ maximum, and the geographical location where it will be visible. The calendar also includes a brief description of the type of eclipse occurring.

For $4.99 you can order a lunar calendar file (pst) that integrates the moon phases and eclipses into yourOutlook calendar with your time zone- very cool tool.

For those just learning astrology a calendar is a good resource to have in your library, tracking the Moon and her cycles is a way to tap into the energy of the moment and learn by osmosis.

The Dove- a power animal story

Meg was a truth seeker in her late 60’s, and elder when I met her over a decade ago...she introduced herself at a memoir writing workshop held at the library. She ran a weekly women’s circle and during the mid-morning break we struck up a conversation. I shared a bit about my healing work, she invited me to speak to her women’s group. Meg introduced me to astrology-she took me to my first class back in 1995.

While Meg was involved in all things metaphysical, she had a deep love for Jesus Christ's teachings and the Bible; she stood in both worlds attending traditional church service and teaching Sunday school class. A seasoned woman, who had a fascinating view of life her counsel helped me in healing the split I had over walking in two worlds. Older people carry wisdom, and too often we don’t take time to really listen.

A couple of weeks after my talk to her group about power loss and soul retrieval, Meg called for a shamanic session. When I greeted her at the front door I noticed her hair was flat and she looked very tired. Meg was taking care of several people in her community- shepherding them to Doctors appointment, listening and lending spiritual comfort in times of illness and transition.

After the diagnostic journey my Helping Spirit said a power animal retrieval was needed. Meg was excited...we lay down side-by-side with drumming in the background and I journeyed to the Lower World on her behalf. I traveled for a bit with my Teacher, and then found myself in a ancient room with brown earthen walls. The place had one arched window and wooden door. Several men in robes sat around a simple wooden table in discussion.

At the head of this wooden table sat Jesus the Christ, it was then I realized it was a meeting with Christ and his disciples...[oh my] I explained my reasons for coming and then Christ said watch this...each Disciple shape shifted into an animal. Christ transformed into a Dove...suddenly I was surrounded by sparkles and hundreds of white doves cooing all around me. It was magical and humbling, it was then my Helping Spirit said "Meg’s power animal is a Dove." The Dove brings her peace of mind and heart, a renewed vibrancy for life and supporting others in her lay ministry.

I journeyed back, and blew the essence of the Dove and the loving message into Meg’s heart and crown chakra. After rattling Meg popped back up. Her countenance looked relaxed, her blue eyes were brighter and now twinkled. She shared- "I saw myself flying with a big bird...I know my power animal is an eagle." I listened and then shared the story- "The power animal that has come to support you at this time is a Dove, the dove brings you peace of mind and heart, a renewed vibrancy for life as you minister to others." Meg was crying tears of joy telling me Doves had always been with her, on a trip to Italy in the Vatican she was moved by a stained glass image of the Doves... her heart and mine was very full.

At astrology class a week later we ran into each other, the first thing I noticed was her hair, it was all fluffed up..she laughed "I have a lot more energy now for getting things done. I can feel my Dove and the Holy Spirit with me." Meg went on to sign up for a hypnotherapy training, another way to support her family and elderly friends.

There is no separation of the realities of seen and unseen, and [my] work as a healer is rooted in the belief that it is not what we "do" that heals, but what we allow ourselves to become. As Jesus taught, the realm of the Divine is within each of us and it is there that we can access the infinite compassion of Mystery. I was raised in a Christian home...sang in church choir from the age of four, and carry Christ in my heart- I knew the story of Jesus and the Dove but what the Disciples did in the journey surprised me. After Meg’s session I researched to find that early Christian symbols for the four evangelists are:

• angel[Matthew], lion[Mark], bull or ox [Luke] and eagle [John].
• The fish, dove, peacock and the phoenix can represent eternal life = resurrection.
• That pure symbols of Christ are bull, dolphin, eagle, fish, griffin, lamb, pelican, phoenix and unicorn. (The Encyclopedia of Christianity devotes a whole chapter to Animals, pages 261-263).

One of the best book for working with animal omens is the classic book Animal-Speak by Ted Andrews.

        Or When does Mercury retrograde?

What is retrograde? My astrology teacher uses this analogy for a Mercury retrograde- you're driving your car and pass a farmer's stand full of tomatoes. About a mile up the road you decide to get some of those fresh tomatoes. You put the car in reverse and drive backward to the farmer's stand. Yes driving backward can be a bit confusing.

Retrograde periods cause a disruption in the normal flow of that planet’s energy [and your energy, your neighbor's energy]. Mercury retrograde is most intense because Mercury rules thinking and speaking. The first ten days of Mercury’s retrograde period your conscious mind is not working effectively...it’s not a time to push through things, or talk a lot. Keep it simple and your words harmless. This year I included the Sabian Symbol for the degree of retrograde and a link to previous posts about the planet's energy. Enjoy.

Note: S/R denotes Stationary retrograde motion- moving backwards.
S/D denotes Stationary direct motion- the planet is now moving forward again.

Gifts to bring out the Virgo in you

Are you organized? More Virgo than Pisces? Good for you, I try but it doesn’t always work...With a Moon in Aries and Sun in Pisces, I move on pretty quickly to the next project, which outwardly manifests as creative chaos; I need all the help I can get to organize. I thought I’d share some of my favorite tools for managing my creative space and the New Moon SoulCollage® process...you may want to add one or all to your holiday wish list. **smile**

Journaling: I don’t like journaling in a notebook, my thoughts come too fast and hand writing is too slow. When I started writing down my dreams I found Microsoft Word too cumbersome. First off anyone could open up the file, and well I wanted a process with more bells and whistles. Then I found LifeJournal eight years ago and never looked back. This software is easy to use, organizes my dreams, gives me prompts for journaling and my SoulCollage® cards are seamlessly integrated into the writing. If you are looking for a gift this holiday season check out LifeJournal.

Organizing: I love my Collector’s Cabinet! I have two in the studio and the units organize everything into 11x14 photo frame trays. I originally bought the cabinets for rubber stamps (I am a scanner); but now the cabinets hold sorted images waiting to be turned into Soulcollage cards. I can take a tray out and work with it on my desk and the images don’t get lost in the shuffle. One 11x14 tray holds six SoulCollage® card packs. I hung the cabinets on the wall in my studio, but the units can be used on the floor (they even come with little wheels to move around). Here’s another view of two small cabinets used as a sofa table, and one wouldn’t even know the person’s a crafter! Oh and here’s a great resource for storage and craft rooms.

Protect the desk: I use an x-acto knife to cut out images for SoulCollage cards -okay, this I am very Virgo about-no white space! I need a strong surface to cut on. Last month I traded in the little cutting mat for a ginormous 36 x 60 cutting mat from Joanne’s Fabrics (it was on sale at the store, not online). The clear mat is permanently mounted with double stick tape on top of the desk; now I can sit anywhere around it and cut out images. I love it!

Here are the upcoming New Moons and retrograde periods for 2008. Pluto enters Capricorn in January for the first time in 230 years. Expect a shift and track your energy at each lunation.

Each New Moon is a conception point for planting seed thoughts-a new idea or stating a decree. There is an energetic doorway present at the new moon, we stand at the threshold wondering and dreaming. Some go to sleep, numb out and forget to dream. Sometimes it's hard waking up from this deep sleep. It can be scary. I honor that. What I suggest is just play with the SoulCollage® process, one new moon at a time...

Every astrologer seems to have their favorite calendar. Llewellyn’s 2008 Astrological Calendar: With Horoscopes for Everyone (Calendar) and We’moon 2008 Calendar: Gaia Rhythms for Womyn also have a date books and wall calendars, but I always come back to Celestial Influences. I do buy a We’Moon Date book because I love the text, poetry and art.

For those just learning astrology a calendar like this is a good resource to have in your library as well. SoulCollage® alert- these old calendars are great resources for both Moon and feminine goddess images.

The sweet smell of success

Here are some New Moon Journal® blogkeeping issues (so very Virgo) I need to address. Subscriptions and Content...

RSS problem- RSS is how this blog is published and sent to you. Over the last month I have been getting rebroadcasts of old posts from The New Moon Journal®. How irritating. If I am getting them, then so are you.

I am sorry.

I have talked to both Feedblitz (my subscription service) and TypePad (where my blog is hosted). No one has an answer for me yet. **argh** I appreciate your patience while I work this out. If you read a lot of blogs I suggest using a feedreader. I use BlogLines and love it. I capture the blogs I want to read by clicking the little orange box (found in the person’s blog) and BlogLines does the rest. BlogLines is my morning paper.

I love writing, creating and sharing about the Moon. After six years of publishing The New Moon Journal® [252 posts, 152 comments] my efforts are paying off. Do you want to follow an artist and be inspired by not only her talent but also her ability to market and be a successful business woman?

Yesterday collage artist Claudine Hellmuth* was on the Martha Stewart Show. I AM SO HAPPY FOR HER! In 2003 I took a beeswax collage class with Claudine in Orlando. I made several great pieces and got hooked on beeswax. The smell of beeswax is just wonderful as one paints to glue down objects and add color. Those beeswax SoulCollage® cards created a buzz the SoulCollage Facilitator training in February women asked "how did you do that?" Well I have Claudine to thank!!

Here’s one of those pieces turned into a SoulCollage® card using old tissue from a Simplicity dress pattern, wax crayons (red and yellow) and old photograph (that’s my mom’s baby picture**smile**).

The fun of not only discovering new ways of creating but also...

• Community-being in all that creative energy with others of like mind and heart creating art.
• Sharing-Claudine walking into the room with a giant duffle bag of images and dumping the pile on the floor for us to play and create with.
• Observing- I sat in the first row. After getting the class started we got to see Claudine’s process for perfecting and doodling a "new" technique she called Poppets®. Now to see those Poppets® on the Martha Stewart Show was just delicious.

She is a great teacher and I just love her blog, her enthusiasm for the Work and how she keeps reinventing her self and her art. Here’s a snippet from her Beeswax Collage DVD, and if you can catch her on Martha Stewart’s show.
